This isn’t about money: it is about resurrection

Yesterday I joined in the installation of a new rector at Christ Church Los Altos. I’ve known Claire – their new rector – since I was a seminarian serving at the church of St. John the Evangelist and she was a member of their choir. We kept in touch when she went off to seminary in New Haven – Alex and I still have our house in New Haven. Afterwards, as I was talking to the previous rector of Christ Church Los Altos – who is the new Dean of Grace Cathedral – we started talking about the close relationship that has existed between the Cathedral and St. Cyprian’s. I said we need some help and Malcolm said he was looking forward to seeing our proposals. And that’s when I knew what we would be proposing to Grace Cathedral and using as the theme for our fundraising campaign.

That’s when I knew this isn’t about money: it is about resurrection.

Yes, we need some help with raising enough money to keep going. But this isn’t about money: it is about resurrection.

Yes, we have to unexpectedly pay to repair about $1,000 to fix the big fridge and old stove. But this still isn’t about money: it is about resurrection.

Yes, we need to retile this floor and put on a new roof. But this isn’t about money: it is about resurrection: Our resurrection as the Beloved Community of Jesus right here in the Western Addition, right here in the North of the Panhandle neighborhood, right here at Turk & Lyon.

We are called to live lives that radiate God’s love for all creation. We are called to come together here on Sundays to become one people by sharing one bread and one cup. And we are called to carry God’s love out into our community.

Soon you will receive an invitation to help us keep going – to be part of our community and to help us pay our bills through the end of this year and the next. But remember: this isn’t about money: it is about resurrection – our resurrection.

Please choose to help us open our doors and our hearts to those who need us in this city. Help us to remind those who are hurting or afraid that God loves them: that there is no top or bottom or sideways limit to God’s love for us. Help us to live resurrection. Choose resurrection. Be resurrection.
